The Eur-Asian Border Lab hosted workshop on war-making, state making, and drug crop cultivation
On October 6, 2023, the Eur-Asian Border Lab hosted a workshop at Tallinn University titled A Colombian-Burmese Connection? A dialogue on war making, state making and drug crop cultivation. The event brought together Lab member Dr. John Buchanan (Tallinn University) and Dr. José Antonio Gutiérrez (University of York) to lead a discussion on these topics, drawing from their extensive research on Burma and Colombia.
Philippines’ Deputy Foreign Minister visits Tallinn University
On October 3, 2023, Philippines Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations and ASEAN Affairs Maria Theresa P. Lazaro delivered a lecture on the Philippines’ Independent Foreign Policy hosted by Tallinn University (TLU). Her lecture discussed the country’s paramount principles when drafting foreign policy, provided insights into the Southeast Asian country’s perspectives on the global order, and highlighted the centrality of ASEAN in the Indo-Pacific.
The Eur-Asian Border Lab and the TLU International Relations Society jointly organized the event. Lab member John Buchanan served as discussant. Issues raised in the discussion included developments in the West Philippine Sea, the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the ongoing civil war in Myanmar.
