The unit, consisting of Estonian reservists, will support the local police and paramilitary group in handling increased migration pressures and maintaining internal security. This move is a response to potential hybrid threats from Russia and Belarus, who may escalate such tactics over the next decade. Estonia has already strengthened its borders, limiting access at key points, but as part of the Schengen area, it remains susceptible to migration pressures from other Schengen countries. Currently Estonia has a 90% success rate in returning illegal migrants.
