Estonia’s Police and Border Guard Board (PPA) has opened a fully automated border checkpoint between Estonia’s Saatse and Russia’s Serpovo recently. For the first time in Estonia, the EU-Russia crossing point has adopted an unmanned system in which the Estonian border guards can monitor the Estonian border remotely. While the usage of Saatse-Serpovo crossing point has been fallen from up to 20 travellers PER DAY a decade ago to less than 10 this year, anyone (including Russian nationals) with as biometric passport is allowed to use the newly installed automatic system.
