Estonia will implement the new European Union Entry/Exit System (EES) on October 12, joining other Schengen countries in registering the biometric data of third-country nationals entering and leaving the area. The system will replace manual passport stamping with a digital process that records personal details, facial images, fingerprints, and entry/exit times at all Estonian border crossing points, including ports, airports, and the eastern border.

Authorities say the EES will make border control more efficient and secure, helping to prevent illegal migration, detect overstayers, and facilitate smoother travel for legitimate visitors. However, as biometric data collection takes longer, travellers may experience slightly extended waiting times, particularly in the first weeks after launch. The Police and Border Guard Board advises travellers to arrive early and use automated border control gates where possible.
