Estonia’s plans to build a drone wall for border security will continue despite a lack of EU funding, according to Interior Minister Igor Taro and border guard expert Hanna Heier. Currently, funding from the Estonian government and EU total around €17 million will cover the initial phases of building a ‘drone wall’, including drone detection capabilities on the eastern border near Russia and in major cities by 2027. While EU funding would have facilitated collaboration with other nations facing similar threats, Estonia is actively seeking alternative funding sources and remains committed to developing this crucial aspect of national defence.
