Bus companies anticipate a higher number of border crossings in Narva before the holidays, with travel peaking twice: before Christmas and New Year’s. However, no additional buses will be added due to low overall passenger numbers. According to Rait Remmel, head of international business at Lux Express, this year has seen an unprecedented decline in holiday travelers, citing long border waits of up to six hours in Narva, cold weather, and stricter border controls on both sides. Baltic Shuttle CEO Igor Pashchuk noted a 50% drop in passengers compared to last year. Most travelers are dual citizens or Russian nationals visiting family.
