The Estonian Police and Border Guard Board (PPA) has banned residents from flying drones in the border zone of Ida-Virumaa region due to GPS signal jamming by Russia. This interference can cause drones to crash, posing risks to human lives and properties. The five-kilometer-wide border zone runs along the Narva River. Previously, drone flights required PPA approval, no permits will be issued from now on. The ban will remain in place until the situation improves. Ida Prefecture border guard chief Eerik Purgel emphasized that strong signal jamming makes drone flights unsafe, especially in densely populated areas like the city of Narva and the region of Narva-Jõesuu.
